Megale Hellas Diving Center

Our story

Since 2007, the Megale Hellas Diving Center has been a key destination for scuba diving and nature enthusiasts in Calabria. Located in the heart of the Riviera dei Gelsomini, along the southern Ionian coast in the province of Reggio Calabria, our center combines passion, professionalism, and a deep love for this land rich in history and natural beauty.

The name “Megale Hellas” harks back to Magna Graecia, which left a lasting imprint on this region. This connection to history and the sea inspires us daily to guide our guests in exploring a fascinating underwater world, stretching from pristine sandy beaches to the towering cliffs of the Costa Viola on the Tyrrhenian coast.

Our center is certified as a FIAS Punto Mare (Italian Federation of Underwater Activities), an SSI (Scuba Schools International) Center, and a Gold ISDA (International Scuba Diving Academy) Center, ensuring the highest standards of safety and training. We offer diving courses for all levels, underwater excursions to historic wrecks, and dives at some of the Mediterranean’s most breathtaking sites.

The Structure of the Diving Center

Located on the seafront of Marina di Gioiosa Ionica, our diving center is designed to provide maximum comfort for divers. Among our facilities, you’ll find:

Spacious reception area to warmly welcome our guests.
Multimedia classroom, equipped to accommodate up to 15 students and support theoretical training.
Large, well-organized equipment storage, with rental options available.
Hot showers and a washing station for post-dive convenience.
Refill center with state-of-the-art compressors for Air, Nitrox, and Trimix, ensuring perfect gas mixtures for every type of dive.

Our tank inventory includes over 70 units, featuring double steel tanks of various capacities and aluminum stages, meeting the needs of every diver.

FIAS Instructor, SSI Instructor and ISDA Instructor Trainer, specialized in Underwater Archeology and Marine Biology. Sympathy, professionalism, passion and an immense love for Calabria, in a person who works also as an archaeologist and as Official Guide of the Aspromonte National Park.

Francesco Tedesco

CEO Manager

FIAS Instructor, SSI Instructor and ISDA Instructor Trainer, specialized in Deep Air and Technical dives. His experience as a diver in the Navy is his business card! He works also as Parachuting Instructor.

Rosario Soldani

Collaborator

ISDA Instructor and FIAS Assistant Instructor. His laugh is contagious; balanced person, helpful and patient.

Accessibility and Inclusivity

At Megale Hellas, we believe the sea has no barriers. We have eliminated architectural obstacles, and our staff, trained to work with individuals with motor and visual disabilities, offers diving courses and experiences accessible to everyone.

Vehicles and Boats

For transfers to dive sites, we use:

Minivans for transporting tanks and equipment.
A 4.7m inflatable boat, perfect for coastal dives.
A 7.5m main inflatable boat, moored at the port of Roccella Jonica, equipped with a 250cc engine for excursions and dives along the southern Ionian coast, the Costa Viola, and the Strait of Messina.

Our Activities

First Aid Courses (BLS-D and Oxygen First Aid).
Certification for Professional Lifeguards, with professional qualification.
Guided tours, trekking, and excursions to discover Calabria’s natural, historical, and archaeological treasures.
